Trafalgar Regional Art Show and Exhibition Report and slide show
The Rotary Club of Trafalgar Regional Art Show and Exhibition has again been a great success. Held over the weekend of 16 to 18 April, 350 paintings, drawings, photographs and 3D exhibits were on display.
The show was opened by Baw Baw Shire Deputy Mayor Dianne Blackwood who reflected on her strong relationship with local art and the Warragul art community. Dianne commended the organisers on the high standard of art and the way it was displayed saying that the exhibition had improved year by year.
Judges commended entrants generally and praised individual prize winners. An example of their thorough deliberations and follow-up comments are contained in the following two paragraphs.
In awarding the Bendigo Bank Open 1st Prize Award to Karin Ryan for The Earth Reborn, the Chief Judge Simon Gregg commented, “This is a really striking picture that is so much fun and such a joy to look at. The colours seem to glow from within, and the imagery is so poetic and picturesque. It imparts a strong sense of the artist’s relationship with Gippsland, as a kind of mythological utopia.”
The Photography Judge Ruth Burleigh awarded 1st Prize for photography to Peter Boyes for Misty Morning “because I feel it has all the necessary elements I look for in an image; impact, good composition, technical qualities and presentation. I love the mood in this image, it is lovely and soft and the colours are so delicate.”
We especially thank the three judges for sharing their expertise and taking the time to help other artists. Their work was time consuming but the long lasting impact of their deliberations will flow on to benefit local artists, their art and our exhibition.
The Rotary Club would like to thank everyone who helped make the Exhibition a success in particular our major sponsors the Trafalgar and District Community Bank, Baw Baw Shire, and also our many other sponsors, artists and the community generally who assisted us and who came in numbers to the exhibition.
